Everton transfer news: Huge Sean Longstaff update emerges

Everton have been linked with a summer move to sign Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff.

The Toffees will be moving into their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next season and will want to revamp their squad before that.

It is also the first summer window under The Friedkin Group after they completed the takeover back in December.

Everton “likely” to pursue move to sign Longstaff

The Toffees considered the services of Longstaff in January and he’s “likely” to pop up on their radar in the summer as well, per Liverpool Echo’s Joe Thomas.

The 27-year-old will be in the final year of his deal at St James’ Park next season and that is something Everton would like to make the most of.

Signing him could bring much-needed stability and versatility to their midfield, addressing a key area of inconsistency.

The 27-year-old has proven himself a reliable Premier League performer, offering tenacity, work rate, and a knack for breaking up play.

He’s also got over 150 appearances under his belt in the English top flight and that certainly will count for something.

David Moyes can get the best out of Longstaff at Bramley-Moore Dock

Longstaff’s 200+ appearances for Newcastle showcase his durability, while his occasional bursts forward, like his goal against Chelsea in 2023, hint at the untapped attacking potential David Moyes could harness.

To get the best out of him, Moyes could deploy Longstaff in a disciplined double-pivot alongside a creator like James Garner, allowing him to focus on defensive duties while feeding the attack with simple, effective passes.

The Scotsman’s success with grafters like Declan Rice at West Ham suggests he could refine Longstaff’s positioning and stamina, turning him into a linchpin for Everton next term.

Pairing him with a robust backline is vital given Everton’s reliance on solidity and it would maximise his impact, making him a shrewd, low-risk signing with high reward potential.
