Ally McCoist absolutely stunned by ‘Crazy’ thing he saw in Everton v Tottenham
Ally McCoist was left absolutely stunned by Richarlison’s second goal for Tottenham in the clash with Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Brazilian returned to Merseyside with two first-half goals, including a screamer from the edge of the box to give Spurs a 2-1 lead heading into half-time.
And reacting to the goal on commentary live on TNT Sports (3 February, 13:11), McCoist was left in awe of playmaker James Maddison’s role in the goal after a “crazy” one-yard pass led to the “magnificent” finish.
“Oh it’s magnificent!” McCoist shouted as the ball hit the net, while Fletcher exclaimed “that is fantastic!”
“That’s special from Richarlison,” Fletcher added, before McCoist went into more depth.
“Fletch, I’ll tell you what’s special before the finish. Maddison’s feet. Maddison’s feet is remarkable. And he gives a one-yard pass, I know it sounds crazy, but it’s a one-yard pass which is an absolute delight for Richarlison to hit it.
“This is an absolutely beautiful goal. It really is. Magic stuff down the left hand side. That’s brilliant in itself but the finish is equal if not better.
“That’s beautiful goal. What a goal. The finish is magnificent.”
Everton struggle again
There aren’t many things that the Toffees can do to stop that Richarlison strike from ending up in the top corner, and sometimes you just have to applaud world-class quality.
But that moment wasn’t the difference in the game. It was more the amount of chances that Sean Dyche’s side managed to miss in the first-half in particular, and how they failed to make the pressure count.
There’s only so often that can be allowed to happen, especially at Goodison Park where points are going to be so vital in the second half of the season.
But with that said, Richarlison deserves plenty of credit for the strike and McCoist is spot on with his reaction to the goal.
Everton are missing a player of that quality in the squad who can win a game on his own. If only we hadn’t been forced to sell him, who knows where we’d be today.
